Rez Serves allows you to spend a half day volunteering with a local organization and to make connections with community members and other Ryerson Residence students and make a difference in the Toronto Community.
All those who choose to participate in Rez Serves will be required to attend a volunteer training workshop on Wednesday, March 10th from 7-9 pm in Pitman 200.
Please choose one of the following opportunities to volunteer:
1. Sunday March 21st, 2010 from 1-4 pm
a) The Good Shepherd Centre: provides food, shelter and clothing for people in need. While the Centre continues to provide the basic necessities of life, it has also grown to incorporate programs that address the more serious causes of homelessness such as addictions, health care and housing.
Duties may include: serving meals, laundry, bed-making, connecting with sheltered users.
b) Young Street Mission: works to meet the needs of people living in poverty in our city through our diverse programs, we make a positive difference in the lives of families, seniors, socially isolated adults, homeless street youth and children. Services include a food bank and meal programs, employment and computer training, school readiness programs, counseling, daycare and a post-secondary Scholarship fund.
2. Friday March 26th, 2010 from 3-7 pm
Toronto Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club: works with young people and their families, enabling them to develop the life skills, knowledge and values essential to becoming healthy contributing individuals.
The Gerrard K After School Program runs each weekday from 3:30 to 7 pm. This structured After School program for six to thirteen year olds introduce members to variety of activities and programs that promote physical, creative, educational and social development through play.
